Koh Tan & Koh Madsum
Koh Tan
This island used to be home to 500 people in the 1960s, however, after higher wages on the neighboring island of Koh Samui, most inhabitants emigrated there. School and the health center were closed; most houses are empty. Now there are about 50 people living on this island. The island is only reachable by boat from the fishing village Thong Krut on the south coast of Samui. From other places to Koh Tan will take a longer time.
Koh Madsum
Koh Madsum is a small island in the Samui Archipelago, which consists of about 69 islands. It is just a few minutes boat ride from the south side coast of Koh Samui. The island is a paradise with a lovely beach, friendly pigs. These pigs arrived in Koh Madum swimming across the sea from the neighboring Koh Taen. The island is a great stop for a day trip which is off the beaten path from Koh Samui.
